Description

This session uses hypothetical scenarios to illustrate factors influencing the choice of anaesthetic technique for obstetric procedures.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Describe the classification of urgency of a Caesarean section
• Assess the advantages and disadvantages of different anaesthetic techniques for healthy women undergoing obstetric anaesthetic procedures
• Advise women regarding the options for anaesthesia for obstetric procedures

Robert Marr -
I am a final year SpR in the Northern Deanery. I trained in Central London and the Newcastle area. I am married with one son.


Val Bythell -
Val Bythell is a Consultant Anaesthetist in the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne and the programme director for anaesthesia in the Northern Deanery. Her anaesthetic areas of interest include training, obstetrics and anaesthesia for lower GI surgery.

Val is a module editor with the e-LA project.
