Description

This session will consider the effect of the menstrual cycle on the ovaries and uterus and the associated changes in their appearance demonstrated by ultrasound imaging.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Describe the influences of the hormones regulating the normal menstrual cycle
• Identify the normal anatomy of the ovaries and endometrium on a transvaginal ultrasound image
• Recognise the changes in appearance of the ovaries and the endometrium at different phases in the menstrual cycle
• Demonstrate awareness of the need to examine the female pelvis thoroughly using ultrasound so that these physiological changes are interpreted correctly
• Compare your report writing with our suggested style

Rosie was Programme Director for the MSc Medical and Vascular Ultrasound Programmes at King’s College, London from April 2008 to January 2014. Prior to this she was lecturer in Obstetric and Gynaecological Ultrasound at City University. She was also an accredited counsellor, working in primary care and supervising the clinical work of a team of trainee Doctorate Counselling Psychologists.
