Description

This session considers the appearances of the normal aorta and the vessels arising from the aorta, such as the anterior branches and renal arteries. There is also a look at the surrounding anatomy and helpful landmarks commonly seen on ultrasound. Some of the common variants will be discussed.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Describe the equipment required for high quality ultrasound imaging of the abdominal aorta
• Identify normal anatomy of the abdominal aorta
• Review the ultrasound appearance of the aorta
• Briefly describe the normal variants relating to the aorta

Glenda Toach

Senior Lecturer University of the West of England

Glenda Toach is a Senior Lecturer on both the MSc Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound programme and the BSc Diagnostic Radiography programme at the University of the West of England, Bristol.

Glenda has many years’ experience both as a diagnostic radiographer and senior sonographer. Her interests are in angiography, paediatric radiography and all fields of diagnostic medical ultrasound.

From 2011 to 2016 she was a Clinical Skills Trainer for the NHS Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programme and was also a Consultant Sonographer for Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust.
