Description

This session will consider the ultrasound appearances of paediatric bowel. Normal appearances and three specific conditions will be described. Tips on report writing and on avoiding common pitfalls will be offered.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Describe the equipment and patient positioning requirements for ultrasound imaging of the paediatric bowel
• Identify relevant normal anatomy
• Recognise the ultrasound appearance of appendicitis, infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis and intussusception
• Describe some of the limitations and pitfalls
• Compare your report writing style with our suggested style

Paediatric Radiologist, Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust

Dr David Horton qualified in medicine in 1986, training in radiology from 1990-95. After a year as Paediatric Radiology Fellow at the Royal Liverpool Children’s Hospital, he took up the post of Consultant Paediatric Radiologist for Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, which includes a large teaching hospital with neonatal and paediatric medical and surgical specialties.

He is Honorary Secretary of the British Society of Paediatric Radiology, and President of the Hull Medical Society.
