Description

This session provides an introduction to imaging and evaluating blood flow in vessels. The principles underlying Doppler measurements, equipment use, and scanning technique will be discussed. Tips on avoiding pitfalls and report writing will be offered.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Describe common applications of vascular ultrasound
• Describe the principles underlying the Doppler technique
• Define terms and methodology used in diagnostic vascular ultrasound
• Identify the equipment and controls required for vascular imaging
• Recognise common pitfalls and artefacts
• Discuss the advantages and limitations of vascular ultrasound in relation to other imaging modalities
• Compare your report writing style with our suggested style

Lecturer in Medical Physics, Department of Cardiovascular Sciences, University of Leicester

Emma Chung is a Lecturer in Medical Physics in the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences at the University of Leicester, and Research Lead for the Medical Physics Department of the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. She currently lectures in Medical Physics and Cardiovascular Imaging and provides training for researchers and practitioners from a range of backgrounds.

Her research focuses on the translation of novel ultrasound techniques to provide a better understanding cerebrovascular physiology. Emma is an Associate Editor and former Editor-in-Chief of Ultrasound the journal of the British Medical Ultrasound Society (BMUS).
