Description

This session will describe the practical aspect of scanning for lower limb venous insufficiency. It will include basic anatomy and anatomical variants as well as basic physiology.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Identify common symptoms of venous insufficiency
• Describe the equipment required for imaging the venous system
• Recall the importance of patient positioning
• Identify normal anatomy of the superficial veins and major junctions of the leg
• Explain the function of venous valves and vein competency

Chief Clinical Vascular Scientist at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust

Tim has been working as a Clinical Vascular Scientist since 1985 for University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. Tim has had significant involvement with the Society for Vascular Technology and has been both Society President and Chairperson of the Professional Standards Committee.

Tim has been involved with a number of scientific publications and has also co-authored a book on vascular ultrasound. He works closely with the NHS Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programme and is active in both clinical and academic training.
