Description

This session considers the sonographic appearance of the shoulder. It will include an overview of normal appearances and common pathology, and discuss common pitfalls to avoid. Tips on reporting will be offered.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Describe the equipment and understand the patient positioning required for high quality ultrasound imaging of the shoulder
• Identify normal shoulder anatomy visible on ultrasound
• Gain an appreciation for the rationale and indications for shoulder sonography
• Review the ultrasound appearance of common pathologies
• Describe the limitations and pitfalls of ultrasound imaging of the shoulder
• Compare your report writing style with our suggested style

Consultant Sonographer, Leeds Radiology Academy. Sonographer, Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Sara qualified as a Diagnostic Radiographer in 1986 and completed the Diploma in Medical Ultrasound in 1991 and an MHSc in Medical Ultrasound in 2001. Currently, she works as Consultant Sonographer at the Leeds Radiology Academy delivering and coordinating ultrasound training and assessment for the radiology trainees and as a Sonographer for Bradford Teaching Hospitals Foundation NHS Trust. She has a special interest in musculoskeletal ultrasound.
