Description

This session will describe the anatomy and scanning technique used in ankle and foot assessment. Common pathology and pitfalls are discussed. Tips on reporting will be offered.

Objectives

Warren Foster -
Ultrasound Clinical Specialist Lead, Southern Health Foundation NHS Trust

Warren Foster qualified as a diagnostic radiographer in 2000 and has worked both in the UK and in Africa. Having spent time in angiography and then CT he has also lectured at Exeter University. Currently he is working at Southern Health Foundation NHS Trust undertaking a wide range of examinations including biopsies and joint injections while continuing to promote the education of sonographers and supporting radiology registrar training.

Warren has been an invited speaker at The British institute of Radiology and NHS improvement meetings. His focus is on better patient services with the use of appropriate role extension. He currently continues to offer lectures through a number of academic institutions.

He strongly believes in the capabilities of ultrasound, in the hands of a skilled professional, and is dedicated to sharing knowledge.


Stephen Duffy -
Consultant MSK Sonographer, Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital (NNUH)

Stephen studied MSc Medical Ultrasound at Cranfield University in 1998 whilst in the Royal Air force.

In 2000 he left the RAF having served in the UK, Germany, Kosovo and Cyprus to join the NHS at Lincoln.

Whilst working as superintendent sonographer at Lincoln he developed a keen interest in MSK ultrasound and performed ultrasound-guided multilevel intramuscular injections of botulinum toxin in children with cerebral palsy.

Stephen left Lincoln in September 2010 and for a short time held a locum MSK sonographer position at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) before moving to Australia to work in MSK ultrasound. On his return from Australia in 2012 he was appointed consultant MSK sonographer at NNUH. Currently, his role includes developing one-stop diagnostic/treatment visits and teaching at the nearby Norwich Radiology Academy.
