Description

This session will review the sonography of common pathology of the abdominal wall and groin with emphasis on relevant anatomy, hernia classification and pitfalls in interpretation. Reporting tips will be offered.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Identify the anatomy of the abdominal wall and inguinal region
• Describe the common types of abdominal wall and groin hernias
• Recognise the sonographic appearances of common abdominal wall and groin pathology
• Describe the limitations and pitfalls of ultrasound imaging of the abdominal wall and groin
• Compare your reporting style with our suggested style

Karen Partington -
Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Karen graduated from the medical school of the University of Glasgow in 2003 and enrolled as a Specialist Registrar on the Leeds/Bradford Radiology training programme in 2007, followed by a Post-Certificate of Satisfactory Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) Fellowship in Musculoskeletal Radiology at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford. She was subsequently appointed as a Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist in Oxford 2013.


Philip Robinson MB ChB (Hons), MRCP, FRCR -
Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist, Leeds Teaching Hospitals and University of Leeds

Philip has been a Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist at Leeds Teaching Hospitals and the University of Leeds since 2001. His clinical work and research cover all aspects of musculoskeletal imaging including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and ultrasound. Specialist interests include sports, image-guided intervention and sarcoma imaging/intervention.

He has been awarded 11 research grants and won two research awards. His publications include one book, 10 book chapters, over 80 peer reviewed publications (for over 30 of which he is first author) and over 15 invited review articles. He is currently an Editorial Board member of American Journal of Roentgenology and Editor in Chief of Seminars in Musculoskeletal Radiology.
