Description

This session considers the sonographic appearances of the salivary glands. It will include an overview of normal appearances and common pathology, and discuss common pitfalls to avoid. Tips on reporting will be offered.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Describe the equipment required for high quality ultrasound imaging of the salivary glands
• Identify normal anatomy of the main salivary glands
• Review the ultrasound appearance of common pathologies
• Describe the limitations and pitfalls of ultrasound imaging of the main salivary glands
• Compare your report writing style with our suggested style

Consultant Sonographer
United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust

Catherine qualified as a diagnostic radiographer in 2001 and specialised in ultrasound in 2004. She is currently employed as Consultant Sonographer at the United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust and has special interests in head and neck ultrasound, musculoskeletal and ultrasound-guided interventional procedures. She regularly delivers lectures on various courses and study days and teaches at academic institutions.

Catherine serves as an Officer with the British Medical Ultrasound Society (BMUS) and has a particular interest, working alongside BMUS, in the promotion of best practice in professional standards. She is also a reviewer for the scientific publication Ultrasound.
