Description

This session will discuss the role of ultrasound in the assessment of the placenta and cervix during pregnancy.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Identify the anatomy of the placenta and cervix
• Describe the correct techniques to use to assess the placenta and cervix
• Describe your findings regarding the placenta and/or cervix concisely in a report
• Appreciate the importance of accurately determining placental site
• Recognise the typical appearances of a short cervix
• Explain the significance of ultrasound findings, the importance of producing high quality images and ensuring appropriate follow-up

Ellen Dyer
on behalf of Health Education England

Ellen Dyer qualified as a Diagnostic Radiographer in 2003 and specialised in medical ultrasound in 2007. She subsequently completed her Masters degree in Medical Ultrasound in 2011 and currently works at Rosie Hospital, Cambridge, undertaking a range of obstetric examinations. Ellen is a published author of ultrasound related research.
