Description

This session is an introduction to common procedures undertaken in the cardiac catheterisation laboratory including pacemaker insertion and electrophysiology studies.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Explore the basics of electrocardiography, and identify common arrhythmias
• Describe the purpose of cardiac electrophysiology studies
• Explain the different clinical indications for pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators ICDs
• Recognise the components of pacemakers and ICDs on imaging
• Explore some of the potential complications after the insertion of pacemakers and ICDs

Rob Meertens
on behalf of Health Education England

Rob is a medical imaging lecturer at the University of Exeter. He comes from a clinical background as a cardiac radiographer and currently lectures on topics ranging from radiographic technique, radiographic equipment and pathology. He also has specialist experience in computed tomography and neurovascular angiography.
