Description

This session describes managing a pregnant woman with FGM, carrying out a reversal and how to document their assessment and treatment.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Describe each type of FGM
• Document the assessment and treatment provided to a woman with FGM
• List the short- and long-term complications of FGM
• Describe the management of antenatal, perinatal and postnatal issues
• Describe how to carry out deinfibulation either antenatally, during labour or in a non-pregnant woman

Pallavi Latthe and Sveta Alladi
on behalf of Health Education England

Dr Latthe is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and Subspecialist in urogynaecology. She is currently the lead for paediatric adolescent gynaecology and the lead for FGM in the Birmingham women’s NHS Foundation trust.

Dr Alladi is the Clinical Lead for the e-Learning in FGM awareness project. She is also a Paediatric Trainee in Community Paediatrics in London and previously a National Medical Director Fellow in Leadership and Management at Health Education England. In addition, she has specialist interest in Public Health having completed a Masters in Public Health from Harvard University and worked with UNICEF in India.
