Description

This session develops basic 2D transthoracic echocardiography practice by describing Doppler theory and its clinical applications. It explains the role of Doppler in the comprehensive evaluation of cardiac function, valve pathology, and basic haemodynamics.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Describe the Doppler principle
• Identify what is meant by Spectral Doppler and Colour-flow Doppler
• Describe the applications and limitations of Spectral Doppler and Colour Flow Doppler in basic echocardiography

Dr Dave Woodward MBChB MRCP(UK) FRCA is a Consultant in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Intensive Care. He holds BSE Transoesophageal Echocardiography Accreditation and regularly performs basic TTE and TOE on the intensive care unit and perioperative TOE for cardiac procedures. He is a mentor and supervisor for candidates collecting their FICE and FEEL logbook scans.
