Description

This session will cover general principles of dental cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). It will describe the various CBCT examinations undertaken in the dental imaging department when CBCT is indicated, including anatomical landmarks and pathology or trauma.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Describe what CBCT is and what it is used for
• Identify the axial, coronal and sagittal planes on a series of CBCT scans
• Identify a range of pathologies on a series of CBCT scans

Andrew Day -
Andrew is a Senior Diagnostic Radiographer at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry and is primarily based at The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel - one of the UK’s major teaching hospitals, renowned as a leading trauma and emergency care centre.

Andrew has a particular interest in dental and maxillo-facial radiography and is part of the team of senior cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) radiographers that work on rotation at the Barts and The London Institute of Dentistry.

He also has a particular interest in teaching and staff development and is the elective placement coordinator for diagnostic radiography students and work experience students at the Royal London Hospital.


Amanda Loughlin -
Dr Amanda Loughlin BDS. Clinical Lecturer in Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology, Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry and Queen Mary, University of London.

Amanda graduated from Queen’s University Belfast in 2009. She worked for five years in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in South Wales where she developed an interest in Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology. This led her to her current role as a Clinical Lecturer. She has a specific interest in Dental Education and has completed a Postgraduate Diploma in the subject.
