Description

This session provides an overview of the human visual system and commonly-used electrophysiological techniques for testing its function in a clinical setting.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Describe which areas of the visual system are tested by the common electrophysiological investigations
• Demonstrate an understanding of how visual electrophysiology tests complement other investigations in the clinical setting
• Recognise situations where visual electrophysiology tests are likely to make a useful contribution to clinical care

Richard has been a consultant ophthalmologist since 1993 with interests in retinal disease and visual electrophysiology. He is vice president of the International Society for Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision. His other professional interests include professional standards, quality and safety of clinical care, and clinical information systems. Richard was vice president and chairman of the Professional Standards Committee of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists from 2006-2010.
