Description

Patient presented with a ruptured left atrium. The patient was admitted to the ICU and monitored intensely, extreme care was taken to try and ensure patient's survival.

Objectives

Cardiac Anatomy and Physiology
Obtain a basic understanding of canine cardiac anatomy and physiology.
Pharmacology
Obtain a basic understanding of which pharmacological agents were utilized in the stabilization of this patient, and why they were chosen for this particular disease.
Critical Care Monitoring
Obtain a basic understanding of the amount of time and energy and skill required in monitoring and caring for a critically ill patient.

I have been a veterinary technician in emergency and critical care since 2009 and I have been licensed in the state of CA since 2013. I love emergency and critical care and have particular interests in acid/base derangement and electrolyte abnormalities. I am currently in the process of obtaining my VTS in ECC. I love lecturing and educating fellow technicians in all areas of veterinary technology.
