Manuel Duarte, MS, DC, DABCO, DACBSP, DABCA, MSAc
on behalf of National University of Health Sciences

Dr. Duarte earned his BS in physical education from Brooklyn College and his MS in developmental disabilities from Long Island University. After earning his master's degree, he investigated various health care professions before choosing chiropractic and coming to National for his DC degree.

"The philosophy of chiropractic appealed to me very much," he said. "I was a chiropractic patient due to some football injuries. I decided it was something I would like to know. Also, it offered independence and allowed me to directly help people with medical problems using a philosophy that appealed to me."

Dr. Duarte's special interest is sports injuries, and he maintains a private practice in which he specializes in training both amateur and professional athletes. In addition to certifications as a chiropractic sports physician and strength training specialist, Dr. Duarte has also earned diplomates from the American Board of Chiropractic Orthopedics and the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians.

He has been a full-time faculty member at NUHS for 19 years, serving on the chiropractic practice faculty as a clinician at National's Whole Health Center - Lombard and teaching in the postgraduate education program. He is now chair of clinical practice and chief clinician for the DC program. In 2013, he earned his master of science in acupuncture from NUHS.

Dr. Duarte enjoys working with students at National because they are excited about embarking on their careers. "Being a part of that process is interesting and makes for an exciting life," he said.
