Description

The purpose of Improving Outcomes in Abuse Management is to educate case managers about types of abuse so that they may be aware of early warning signs and empowered to intervene and support the efforts of other interprofessional practice team members, including other health care professionals, patients and families.

Objectives

Betsy B. Waterman, PhD, CAS, MS, BS

Dr. Betsy B Waterman is a professor emeritus and past department chair of the Counseling and Psychological Services at the State University of New York at Oswego in Oswego, NY. Dr. Waterman has served as a professor since the late 1980's.

Dr. Waterman has also provided direct behavioral health care in a variety of settings including a private practice and her work as the supervisor of the Behavioral Health Department at the Northern Oswego County Health Services Center, Inc, located in Pulaski, NY.

In that capacity, Dr. Waterman provided regular supervision for Social Workers and Mental Health Counselors who provide direct counseling services to clients and was available to medical staff for consultations on the behavioral health needs of their patients. She continues to provide supervision on a limited basis.

Dr. Waterman is passionate about improving the education of behavioral health professionals and in improving the delivery of services to those in need. She has published a number of articles on various related subjects.

Dr. Waterman received her BS in Elementary Education with a concentration in social services in 1983, an MS, CAS in Counseling and Psychological Services with an emphasis on School Psychology 1986, her PhD in School Psychology in 1990, and was licensed as a Psychologist in the State of NY, in 1995.

Dr. Waterman continues to share her wealth of knowledge and professional expertise to programs with the Athena Forum Institute® both as a Course Director and as a Contributing Faculty member.

Ellen Fink-Samnick, MSW, ACSW, LCSW, CCM, CRP

Ellen Fink-Samnick served as the Director of Social Work Education at Athena Forum Institute® for approximately seven years until her resignation in June 2018. Throughout her tenure, Ms. Fink-Samnick shared her social work and case management knowledge and professional expertise to programs with the Athena Forum Institute® both as a Planning Committee member, Course Director and as a Contributing Faculty member

Ms. Fink-Samnick is a popular presenter on case management issues and a published author with articles in diverse journals. With Teresa Treiger, she co-authored the book COLLABORATE® for Professional Case Management: A Universal Competency-Based Paradigm.

Ms. Fink-Samnick's focus spans roles as a professional speaker, an educator, mentor, author and regulatory specialist. Her passion is evident whether serving as Adjunct Faculty for George Mason University's College of Health & Human Services, Licensure Portability expert, Case Management Mentor, Moderator on Social Media for Ellen's Ethical Lens©, Editorial Board Member for Lippincott's Professional Case Management, Trainer for the National Association of Social Workers of Virginia or Clinical Social Work Supervisor.

Ms. Fink-Samnick was elected to the Case Management Society of America (CMSA) Board of Directors in 2017 and has served in numerous leadership roles for CMSA and the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). She is a contributor to CMSA's Career & Knowledge Pathways Project and Co-Facilitator of their Social Work/Behavioral Health Community of Practice. Ellen served as a Commissioner for the Commission for Case Manager Certification and past Chair of their Ethics & Professional Conduct Committee.

Ellen is a Board Certified Case Manager, Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Certified Rehabilitation Provider.
