One Consultation; Four outcomes: Every case, every species, every time

Clinical knowledge and skills are necessary but not sufficient in order to be successful in veterinary practice. All vets need to develop the strategies and the techniques that enable them to achieve the following four goals which are crucial to the sustainability and well-being of your veterinary organisation and your staff

The Colourful Consultation model breaks the consultation up into five crucial stages. Each stage is discussed in terms of ‘the what, why and how’ specific behaviours and communication pieces enable us to measure and achieve each of the four objectives listed above.

Specifically the model helps vets deal with the inherent tension that comes with trying to satisfy multiple stakeholders at the same time. A key feature of this workshop is how a vet’s clinical orientation (their preferred diagnostic-therapeutic strategy) relates to achieving each of the four outcomes as well as their long term financial productivity.

Brian Faulkner BSc(Hons), BMV&S, MBA, MSc(Psych), CertGP SAM, CertGP(BPS), MRCVS

Brian Faulkner has worked in over 250 veterinary practices as a clinician, consultant and confidence coach. He has set up and developed a cluster of veterinary practices in Suffolk, England since 2002. He was the Petplan UK Vet of the Year in 2008 after having been runner up in 2007. He is an officer within the Society of Practising Veterinary Surgeons in the UK and is in charge of the society's CPD programme. Brian is a vice chair at the European School of Post Graduate Veterinary Studies as well as being an Honorary lecturer in Entrepreneurship at Nottingham Veterinary School and Professional Studies at London Veterinary College. He speaks regularly at all the UK conferences such as London Vet Show and the British Small Animal Veterinary Association on how the psychology of fulfilment, achievement and success call be used within veterinary practice . Brian was the 2013 UK and Ireland champion of the Toastmasters International Humorous speech contest. He is the creator of the ‘Colourful Culture’ series which includes the Colourful Consultation, the Colourful Receptionist and the Confidence Chromosome.
