Description

Chronic vision impairment creates unique challenges for the working age individual. This course will describe these challenges and outline the low vision provider's role in helping to keep patients in the workforce.

Ashley D. Deemer, OD, focuses her research on understanding how best to measure effectiveness of Low Vision Rehabilitation, quality of life, and the overall improvement in a patient’s ability to function in his/her daily activities. Dr. Deemer focuses on functional ability outcome measures and depression prevention in the low vision population, specifically as it relates to patients with age-related macular degeneration. She additionally is involved in the research and implementation of new technology and visual assistive equipment aimed at improving visual function in low vision patients. Through her research, she seeks to improve the overall model of rehabilitation and understand the best methods of intervention to improve quality of life and reduce depression in patients with low vision.
