Description

Youth who come into contact with the juvenile justice system, especially those in residential facilities, have higher rates of suicide than their non-system-involved peers. This short CEU course provides guidance on developing and implementing comprehensive suicide prevention policies within juvenile correction facilities.

Objectives

On completion of this course, you will be able to:
1. Enumerate the skills that staff must refine in order to communicate with youth at risk of suicide.

2. Explain when youth should receive a written assessment for suicide risk by medical or mental health staff.

3. Examine what often foretells whether the victim will survive a suicide attempt.
