Abstract: Keratoconjunctivitis is a common cause of red eyes in adults. Determining the specific cause allows for a proper management. Allergic, bacterial, and viruses are common causes of keratoconjunctivitis. These lectures will review the most common viral infections of the eye. This one hour lecture will cover adenovirus keratoconjunctivitis. Adenoviruses can cause severe, highly contagious keratoconjunctivitis and lead to long term complications in some patients. The key signs, symptoms, new treatments and management of Pharyngoconjunctival Fever (PCF) and Epidemic Keratoconjunctivitis (EKC) will be highlighted.

Dr. Valerie M. Kattouf is a 1995 graduate of Illinois College of Optometry. Upon graduation Dr. Kattouf completed a residency in Pediatrics and Binocular Vision at the State University of New York. Dr. Kattouf is currently Chief of the Pediatrics and Binocular Vision Service at the Illinois Eye Institute. Dr. Kattouf’s career focus is teaching courses in the areas of Strabismus and Amblyopia and Infant and Toddler Vision Care. Dr. Kattouf is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and the College of Optometrists in Visual Development.
