This one hour course satisfies the requirement for continuing education in ethics or professional responsibility that is mandated by the Texas Optometry Board (TOB) for renewal of optometric licensure each year. Topics covered in the course are determined by the TOB. The goal of the course is to educate all Texas optometrists on important changes to legislation and policy in 2016 as well as provide updates regarding best practices in optometry. The course will review some case examples of violations of laws and policies.


The purpose of the presentation is to provide attendees with up to date information regarding the following topics as they relate to the practice of optometry in Texas:

Kyle Sandberg, OD, FAAO

Dr. Kyle Sandberg is an Assistant Clinical Professor as well as the Chief of Refractive Surgery and Laser Services at the Rosenberg School of Optometry. He has been a full time faculty member since 2012 and teaches in both the professional Optometry program and the undergraduate Vision Science program. Dr. Sandberg grew up in Florida and graduated from the University of Central Florida with a bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology and Microbiology and a minor in Psychology. He graduated from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale with both a bachelor’s degree in Vision Science and his Doctor of Optometry degree. He subsequently completed a residency in Ocular Disease and Ocular and Refractive Surgery at the Eye Center of Texas in Houston. He became a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry in 2013. Dr. Sandberg has research interests in glaucoma, ocular disease and the use of new ocular surgical devices. He is married and has two Pugs. Personal interests include music, golf, travel and football.
