Description

NOTE:  This program is offered to current UT Austin College of Pharmacy active Preceptors ONLY.This content is only appropriate for UT Austin Preceptors. The 2015 New Preceptor Orientation provides basic preceptor information for new UT College of Pharmacy Preceptors, and refresher information for experienced UT Austin preceptors.  This activity covers essential components of the UT Austin Preceptor role and responsibilities including understanding the various reporting systems used by the College, how to set up orientations based on UT Austin requirements, and how to report and work with students who are not fulfilling their responsibilities. The activity is presented live by Linda Albrecht MAN, R.Ph. FASHP , Regional Director, Dallas/Fort Worth Regional Experiential Program This program includes a one-hour video of the live conference presentation recorded on August 1, 2015, and a PDF copy of the presentation slides. NOTE:  Preceptors :  This CPE activitiy counts towards the Texas State Board of Pharmacy Liscensing requirements for Preceptors of "three hours of pharmacist preceptor training provided by an ACPE approved provider within the pharmacist's current license renewal period." ( TX Administrative Code Title 22, Part 15, Chapter 283, rule 283.6, Section 3, B, II, ii) ** Note:  Participants will be audited to ensure they are current UT Austin College of Pharmacy preceptors.  Those found who have claimed CPE credit for this activity that are not current UT Austin preceptors will have their CPE credits removed from their NABP eProfile.

Objectives
List both preceptor and student requirements for participation in The University of Texas experiential program. Design an intern orientation session that will foster a meaningful preceptor-intern relationship. Describe guidelines for providing feedback and evaluation to pharmacist-interns. Outline the steps to take when dealing with poorly performing students or students who are in danger of failing a rotation.
