Description

Dr. Donaldson will conduct a 1 hour knowledge-based continuing education webinar program on treatment of pediatric epilepsy. She will present a review of utilization of the newer antiepileptic agent and their potential for treatment of pediatric epilepsies. Dr Donaldson will also review any updates with the treatment of pediatric status epilepticus. Finally, she will highlight updates from the American Epilepsy Society meeting with regards to pediatric epilepsy treatments.

Objectives

Objectives
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
Identify appropriate pediatric/adolescent indications for the newer antiepileptics including monitoring parameters.
Select appropriate dosing for alternative medications for treatment of pediatric status epilepticus.
Identify new research and clinical information presented at the 2016 American Epilepsy Society meeting pertinent to current practice for treatment of pediatric epilepsy.

Jennifer Donaldson, Pharm D., BCPPS is a clinical specialist at Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health in Indianapolis, IN. Dr. Donaldson earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Butler University and completed a Pediatric Pharmacy Practice Residency at United/Children's Hospital of St. Paul, MN. Dr. Donaldson precepts PGY1 pharmacy residents from Indiana University Health and PGY2 pediatric specialty residents from Riley Hospital for Children. She also precepts pharmacy students from Butler and Purdue Universities. Dr. Donaldson's practice area is with the inpatient child development (complex care), neurology, and neurosurgery services. Areas of clinical interest include refractory epilepsy, ketogenic diet, and cerebral palsy. Dr. Donaldson has also worked with several groups optimizing the electronic medical record for patient safety and CPOE.
