Description

This presentation will provide an overview of contact dermatitis, insect bites, sunburn, and heat rash. The common appearance of each dermatologic condition and when to advise further medical assessment will be presented. The presentation focus will be the recommended OTC medications for contact dermatitis, insect bites, sunburn, and heat rash.

Objectives

Objectives
At the completion of this activity, pharmacists will be able to:
Recognize the signs and symptoms of contact dermatitis, insect bites, sunburn, and heat rash
Determine if a patient is an appropriate OTC candidate for treatment of contact dermatitis, insect bites, sunburn, and heat rash.
Recommend the appropriate OTC treatment for contact dermatitis, insect bites, sunburn, and heat rash.
Counsel patients on the following OTC products: topical hydrocortisone, topical anesthetics, topical diphenhydramine, and topical antipruritics
At the completion of this activity, technicians will be able to:
Recognize the signs and symptoms of contact dermatitis, insect bites, sunburn, and heat rash
List OTC treatments available for dermatitis, insect bites, sunburn, and heat rash
