Objectives

Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

-Describe tension, migraine, and cluster headaches.
-Differentiate between headache types based on clinical presentation.
-Explain the pathophysiology of the various types of headache.
-Identify a patient who meets the criteria for self-care of a headache.
-Recommend nonpharmacologic therapy for a specific headache type.
-Recommend pharmacologic therapy for a specific headache type, including dosage and duration of treatment.
-Recognize adverse events associated with over-the-counter (OTC) analgesics, especially rebound headaches.
-Counsel a patient about the use of an OTC analgesic, including proper dosing and adverse events.
