Description

By using a combination of slides, examples and analogies, this presentation will stimulate the pharmacists thinking to step outside their usual dispensing duties and take a larger part in working with chronic care patients. Examples of successful practices will be given as well as how to overcome barriers and establish a more trusting relationship with physicians.

Jerry Meece, RPh, CDE, FACA, FAADE Owner, Director of Clinical Services - Plaza Pharmacy and Wellness Center Jerry Meece is a pharmacist and Certified Diabetes Educator who is owner and Director of Clinical Services of Plaza Pharmacy and Wellness Center in Gainesville, Texas, one of the first freestanding pharmacies in the country to achieve Provider Education Recognition from the American Diabetes Association. In 1997 Jerry moved to a new location and designed a clinical pharmacy and wellness center to expand the disease state management part of his business. Since then he has received.Jerry Meece is a pharmacist and Certified Diabetes Educator who is owner and Director of Clinical Services of Plaza Pharmacy and Wellness Center in Gainesville, Texas, one of the first freestanding pharmacies in the country to achieve Provider Education Recognition from the American Diabetes Association. In 1997 Jerry moved to a new location and designed a clinical pharmacy and wellness center to expand the disease state management part of his business. Since then he has received national recognition for his diabetes program and has spoken across this country and internationally on the subject of diabetes, disease state management and clinician/patient behavior in the health care setting. He has written numerous articles on diabetes care and insulin use in the patient with diabetes and has been interviewed by publications such as Drug Topics, Managed Care Today, Pharmacy Times, Texas Pharmacy, Retail Pharmacy News, The Australian Journal of Pharmacy and Australian Pharmacist. In 2001, Jerry became the first practicing community pharmacist ever to be elected to the Board of Directors for the American Association of Diabetes Educators and to serve on their Executive Board in the position of Vice President. Jerry has received the Innovative Practice of the Year award by the Texas Pharmacy Association, the Legislative Leadership award by the American Association of Diabetes Educators and the Individual Educational Excellence Award by the Texas Pharmacy Foundation. His latest start-up is Innovative Health Care Designs, a company that holds workshops and seminars in diabetes management for professionals, performs special research projects for national corporations and consults with clinical sites to help them obtain American Association of Diabetes Accreditation.
