Kristen Nichols will conduct a 1 hour knowledge-based continuing education webinar program. Pharmacist are encouraged to participate in this program.

Objectives

Objectives
1. List available rapid tests for diagnosis of bacteria from positive blood cultures and contrast these to traditional methods of bacterial identification.
2. Describe the importance of planning and antimicrobial stewardship involvement in successful implementation of rapid diagnostic testing.
3. Given a patient case, recommend a treatment and monitoring plan for a child with rapid diagnostic test results.

Kristen Nichols, PharmD, BCPPS, BCPS-AQ ID Kristen is an assistant professor of pharmacy practice at Butler University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Indianapolis, IN, where she is also advisor to the student chapter of the Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group. Her practice site is.Kristen is an assistant professor of pharmacy practice at Butler University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Indianapolis, IN, where she is also advisor to the student chapter of the Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group. Her practice site is at Riley Hospital for Children, where she hosts APPE students and serves as the pediatric infectious diseases clinical pharmacist and co-director of the pediatric antimicrobial stewardship program. She is incredibly passionate about antimicrobial stewardship, both in inpatient and community settings, and enjoys working with the system of pharmacists and physicians she has met in this capacity. She founded the Indiana Coalition for Responsible Antibiotic Use in the fall of 2014 to help educate the public and promote judicious antibiotic use in the community. She also enjoys optimizing antibiotic doses, mitigating risks associated with antibiotic use, and working with the microbiology lab.
