Description

Botulinum toxin is a popular cosmetic skin care treatment for the reversal of lines and wrinkles on the face; however, this potent toxin has a number of medical uses in addition to use in cosmetics. It has been approved for use in the treatment of dystonias, headaches, muscle spasms and strabismus. The toxin is also used off-label to treat a variety of medical disorders, such as achalasia and anal fissure. Botulinum toxin is a safe product as long as it is used in low doses. It should be understood that botulinum toxin is not a cure for any medical disorder, as its benefits are temporary, lasting from three to four months.
