Description

This course provides the tools needed to hone skills and direct learning. It is designed for both the CVPM candidate preparing to sit for an upcoming exam as well as a practice manager who seeks to evaluate skills and knowledge for self-assessment, including at the initial phase in the route to certification. The course reviews the five basic disciplines of the exam including: Finance, Human Resources, Marketing, Organization and Legal.

CVPM Certification: Preparing for the Exam provides:

An informational overview about the Veterinary Hospital Manager's Association (VHMA) and the CVPM examination
A personal assessment form to help the student focus studies
Strategies on studying for the exam
A presentation module for each of the 5 basic disciplines designed to provide a thorough review of key concepts in each area
Test-taking tips for the actual exam
In-depth assignments that are organized by suggested reference
A 200-question practice examination
A CVPM instructor who will provide expert interaction and assistance during the instructor-led portion of the course session

Completion of this course will help prepare the CVPM candidate for the examination. For those who are not preparing to take the CVPM exam at this time, the presented material will provide an excellent review of the major concepts of practice management and the key areas of responsibility of the Practice Manager.

Heather Prendergast, RVT, CVPM

Heather Prendergast has spent many years in small animal practice, and attended New Mexico State University to obtain a Bachelors degree in Animal Science. Once she completed her B.S., Heather attended St. Petersburg College and received her Associates degree in Veterinary Technology. She then continued her education, and completed the requirements needed to become a Certified Veterinary Practice Manager.

She has taught several years for both veterinary technology and assistance programs and has authored the book “Front Office Management for the Veterinary Team.” Heather has lectured for several local, state and national organizations on topics ranging from grief management for healthcare professionals to nutrition, inventory, communications and team management for the veterinary healthcare teams. She has authored several articles and participated in published roundtable discussions with the goal of increasing client compliance and communication within the veterinary practice.

Currently, she is practice manager of Jornada Veterinary Clinic in Las Cruces, N.M. She also provides consulting services for Nestle Purina Pet Care and several veterinary practices. Heather serves on several advisory committees, including the Bayer Animal Health Technician Advisory Council and the Nestle Purina Senior Pet Advisory Committee.
